Nestled discreetly at 506 US-281, this unassuming spot thrives on delivering rich, traditional flavors without the distractions of fancy décor. The exterior might not impress at first glance, but longtime patrons assure you that the value lies in the food and genuine hospitality.

The menu reads like a celebration of classic Mexican dishes, crafted with care and freshness. Signature items such as the Wet Burrito, Ground Beef Enchiladas with Rice and Beans, and Barbacoa with homemade flour tortillas transport diners to the roots of regional culinary tradition. The fajitas—featuring strips of beef, chicken, and shrimp—arrive with generous sides of rice, beans, and pico de gallo, embodying a hearty, satisfying meal that speaks to both flavor and portion. Equally notable are the Mini Tacos and Liver & Onion Taco, offering adventurous options for those seeking something beyond the usual.

Beyond the food, Jalisco Mexico Taqueria fosters a welcoming and relaxed environment. The spacious dining area accommodates families, travelers, and locals alike, encouraging patrons to linger over their meals. Service here is highlighted for its friendliness and attentiveness—important traits, especially given the quieter stretches and bursts of busyness that mark the day.

While the restroom facilities could use some attention, with reports of limited paper supplies and flushing issues, the overall experience remains positive, centered around well-crafted dishes and efficient service. The restaurant's commitment to authenticity shines through with their famous South Texas barbacoa, slow-cooked to tender perfection, and complemented by their creamy green sauce—a standout accompaniment known among regulars. Breakfast offerings continue this trend, featuring eggs with fresh pico de gallo and homemade tortillas, making it a sought-after destination at any time of day.

This taqueria particularly appeals to travelers moving through Texas and locals craving genuine Mexican cuisine. The crowd drawn here—often locals judging by the busy parking lot—attests to the quality and authenticity that Jalisco Mexico Taqueria consistently delivers. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner, expect generous portions, bold flavors, and a down-to-earth dining experience reflective of the region’s culinary soul.

In essence, Jalisco Mexico Taqueria is a culinary gem that favors substance over style, satisfying appetite and authenticity seekers alike with every plate served.

Always good food, don't let the exterior fool you. Just means you're not paying overhead for aesthetics. Clean and well kept inside

We like to try different restaurants on our trips between McAllen and Austin. Saw the reviews were good for Jalisco Mexico so we had to try it. It did not disappoint! First let me say the salsa and chips were excellent. We ordered the Texas and Mexican enchilada plates. Very good as well. It was not crowded so the service was fast and friendly. It got crowded before we left though. My only complaint were the restrooms. No paper towels in the men’s and my wife said the toilet would not flush in the women’s. We would definitely go back for the food. So many great choices on the menu!

Excellent South Texas barbacoa (slow-cooked, highly flavorful meat, known for its tenderness and rich taste) served with homemade flour tortillas! Best homemade creamy green sauce for dipping or pouring over your breakfast tacos or omelette. I ordered the potatoes, refried beans and egg omelette stuffed with Pico de Gallo, served with homemade flour tortillas and coffee. While hubby ordered two breakfast tacos, a barbacoa and a egg and potato served with a homemade flour tortilla. With a coffee and a glass of ice water. If you're looking for South Texas authentic traditional Hispanic Mexican cuisine, look no further they offer a menu full of delicious tasty dishes! Plenty of seating and top notch courteous and friendly customer service, greeted with a smile. Hard to find authentic traditional Mexican cuisine in and around the Houston metropolitan suburbs! Ole saying is if the parking lot is full of locals' vehicles packed to the brim that means the food is DAMN GOOD!

The food was really good! I was pleasantly surprised! The only reason I gave a 4 star is due to the tables being dirty when I got there, but the waiter cleaned my table right away. The waiter was friendly & prompt. I had the chalupa plate, and my husband had the taquitos with tripa.

Generous portions for the price. It was hard to finish the whole plate! Lots of space, great environment and great service. If your passing through you won't be disappointed. The bathrooms are not cooled, so be prepared.
